A magnificent teak and bamboo forest located in the Panchmahal district, a short drive from Vadodara.
Once the private hunting ground of the princely state of Jambughoda, this sanctuary is today a haven for nature lovers and trekkers. Unlike the arid regions of Saurashtra, Jambughoda is characterized by its rolling hills and dense forests of teak, mahuda, and bamboo. The landscape is dotted with small tribal settlements, adding a rich cultural layer to the wildlife experience.
The sanctuary is most famous for its population of the Sloth Bear. Visitors often spot these shaggy creatures foraging for termites or honey near the base of trees. Other major carnivores include the Leopard, Hyena, and Jackal. The forest is also home to the Blue Bull (Nilgai), Four-horned Antelope (Chousingha), and the elusive Barking Deer.
One of the scenic highlights of the sanctuary is the Kada Dam. The reservoir is beautifully landscaped and serves as an excellent spot for birdwatching and eco-tourism. Another attraction is Targol, known for its scenic beauty. The forest department has set up interpretation centers and campsites to promote eco-awareness.
The best time to visit Jambughoda is during the winter months (October to March) when the weather is cool. However, the monsoon season transforms the forest into a lush green paradise, making it a favorite weekend getaway for people from Vadodara and Ahmedabad.
Jambughoda offers a more relaxed, offbeat safari experience compared to the busy trails of Gir, making it perfect for families and those looking to reconnect with nature in solitude.

The sanctuary operates on a continuous daytime schedule, allowing flexibility for visitors.
July to March: The absolute best time to visit. During and right after the monsoon, the sanctuary turns into a lush green paradise with numerous water streams. Winter brings pleasant weather for long drives.
April to June: Summer months are hot, but the lack of dense foliage makes wildlife spotting slightly easier around the Kada Dam area.
Note: It is highly recommended to combine this sanctuary visit with the nearby Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park.
