The Rising Tiger Capital of Maharashtra

About Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary

Discover a rapidly emerging, high-density tiger habitat in the Yavatmal district, quickly becoming one of Central India's top wildlife destinations.

Located in the Pandarkawada tehsil of the Yavatmal district, Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary spans a compact yet highly biodiverse area of approximately 148 sq. km. Characterized by its hilly, undulating terrain, this pristine reserve has gained immense popularity in recent years. Thanks to a significant boom in its big cat population, it is now widely considered one of the absolute best places for a thrilling Maharashtra tiger safari outside of the famous Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve.

Origins, Rivers & Landscape

The sanctuary derives its unique name from the ancient Goddess Tipai temple situated deep within the forest core. The vibrant ecosystem is sustained by the winding Purna and Tipeshwar rivers, which serve as crucial lifelines for the region's flora and fauna. The landscape is predominantly a Southern Tropical Dry Deciduous forest, richly dominated by dense thickets of Teak and Bamboo, offering a spectacular and highly photogenic backdrop for wildlife photography.

Wildlife & Big Cat Sightings

Because of its relatively small size, tracking animals during a Tipeshwar jungle safari is highly rewarding. Visitors can expect to encounter a rich variety of Central Indian wildlife:

  • Apex Predators: A thriving and easily trackable population of Royal Bengal Tigers and elusive Indian Leopards.
  • Other Carnivores: Sloth Bears, Striped Hyenas, Jungle Cats, and Indian Jackals.
  • Herbivores & Mammals: Nilgai (Blue Bull), Sambar, Chital (Spotted Deer), and Wild Boars.

Key Safari Gates

To ensure excellent tourism management and optimal wildlife viewing, the sanctuary operates through three primary entry gates:

  • Sunna Gate: The most popular and easily accessible zone, renowned for frequent predator sightings.
  • Mathani Gate: Known for its scenic routes, dense canopy, and high big cat movement.
  • Kodori Gate: Offers a quieter, deeply immersive journey into the dense woodland for offbeat travelers.
