A premier birdwatching destination and tiger habitat in the Ramnagar Forest Division.
Pawalgarh Conservation Reserve, notified in 2012, is located in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. It shot to fame in the early 20th century when Jim Corbett hunted the "Bachelor of Powalgarh," an exceptionally large tiger, in these very forests. Today, it is a protected area spanning 58.25 sq. km, celebrated for its rich biodiversity.
The reserve is a paradise for birdwatchers, home to over 365 species including the Great Slaty Woodpecker, Great Hornbill, and various raptors. The landscape consists of vast grasslands, river beds (Dabka and Kosi rivers), and dense Sal forests, which are part of the Terai Arc Landscape.
Pawalgarh connects the Corbett Tiger Reserve with the forests of Ramnagar, facilitating the movement of big cats. Visitors can enjoy Jeep Safaris, nature walks, and birdwatching tours to spot Tigers, Leopards, Elephants, and diverse avian life in a serene environment.
