A conservation success story located in the Vindhya Hills, just 25 km from the UNESCO Heritage site of Khajuraho.
Panna National Park is celebrated worldwide for one of the most successful tiger reintroduction programs in history. After losing its entire tiger population by 2009 due to poaching, tigers were translocated from Bandhavgarh and Kanha. Today, Panna boasts a thriving population of over 50 tigers, making it a premier destination for wildlife enthusiasts.
The park's lifeline is the pristine Ken River, which meanders through the reserve. The river is home to the endangered **Gharial** (fish-eating crocodile) and Marsh Muggers. Unlike other parks, Panna offers a unique **Boat Safari** experience, allowing visitors to spot aquatic wildlife and varied bird species along the riverbanks.
The terrain is characterized by extensive plateaus and gorges. The majestic **Pandav Falls** and the nearby **Raneh Falls** (the Grand Canyon of India) add to the scenic allure. The forest is also a stronghold for **Vultures**, hosting seven different species, which is a rare sight in modern India.
The park has two main entry zones for jeep safaris: **Madla** and **Hinouta**. While Madla is more scenic and accessible, Hinouta offers a rugged, deep-forest experience. Apart from tigers, visitors can spot Leopards, Sloth Bears, Wolves, and the Indian Four-horned Antelope.
Combining a historical tour of Khajuraho temples with a wilderness adventure in Panna makes for a perfect travel itinerary in Madhya Pradesh.
