The Green Oasis of Vidarbha

About Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve

Discover the untamed beauty of Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve, a hidden wildlife gem located in the Gondia and Bhandara districts of Maharashtra.

Officially designated as the 46th Tiger Reserve of India, Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve (NNTR) is formed by the amalgamation of the Navegaon National Park and the Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary. Fondly referred to as the "Green Oasis of Vidarbha," this lush, biodiverse landscape plays a critical role in Central India's tiger conservation efforts.

Navegaon Lake & Avian Diversity

The reserve is globally renowned for the breathtaking Navegaon Lake, a vital perennial water source that sustains the forest ecosystem. During the winter months, the lake's backwaters transform into a paradise for bird watchers, attracting massive flocks of migratory birds. The surrounding topography is incredibly diverse, featuring a spectacular mix of rolling hills, deep valleys, and dense deciduous forests.

Wildlife & Big Cat Sightings

Thanks to excellent forest connectivity with other major tiger corridors in Central India, NNTR boasts a thriving and genetically healthy wildlife population. A Maharashtra tiger safari here offers excellent opportunities to spot:

  • Apex Predators: Royal Bengal Tigers, Indian Leopards, and packs of endangered Dholes (Indian Wild Dogs).
  • Mammals & Herbivores: Sloth Bears, Indian Bison (Gaur), Sambar, Chital (Spotted Deer), and Wild Boars.

An Uncrowded Safari Experience

Compared to the heavy tourist footfall of nearby parks like Tadoba or Pench, a Nagzira jungle safari guarantees a highly serene, raw, and uncommercialized wilderness experience. For nature lovers, wildlife photographers, and offbeat travelers seeking solitude, Navegaon Nagzira offers the perfect escape into the wild.
