A pristine extension of the Corbett Tiger Reserve, famous for its elephants and scenic beauty.
Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary, spread over 301 sq. km in the Nainital and Pauri Garhwal districts of Uttarakhand, forms an integral part of the Corbett Tiger Reserve. The name "Sonanadi" translates to "River of Gold," derived from the history of gold panning in the river that flows through this sanctuary.
The sanctuary is known for its dense Sal and Sheesham forests, bamboo clumps, and rich biodiversity. It is a prime habitat for Asian Elephants, Tigers, Leopards, Cheetal, Sambhar, and Reptiles like the King Cobra and Python. It also boasts over 550 species of birds, making it a birdwatcher's delight.
Sonanadi offers a tranquil jungle experience away from the heavy tourist rush of the main Corbett zones. The main entry gates for safaris are Vatanvasa, Pakhro, and Haldupar, which are easily accessible from Kotdwar.
