A rapidly emerging, high-density tiger habitat located just 60 km from Nagpur, making it a favorite destination for weekend wildlife safaris.
Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary has shot to international fame in recent years, largely due to the legendary migration of the massive male tiger 'Jai' from Nagzira. Spanning approximately 189 sq. km across the Nagpur and Bhandara districts, this sanctuary plays a phenomenal ecological role. It serves as a critical wildlife corridor connecting the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, Pench Tiger Reserve, and Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary, facilitating essential genetic dispersal among Central India's tiger populations.
The sanctuary boasts a breathtaking and diverse landscape dominated by dry deciduous forests, expansive meadows, and deep valleys. The majestic Wainganga River flows along a significant boundary of the sanctuary, providing a crucial perennial water source for the wildlife and offering highly scenic, photogenic backdrops for a Maharashtra tiger safari.
Thanks to its strategic location and excellent conservation, tracking animals during an Umred Karhandla safari is highly rewarding. The forest supports a thriving and diverse ecosystem:
